Year 9 Food & Design Technology

Students are further developing their methods of cookery knowledge and skills through cooking - with pasta and rice being the focus. Spaghetti & Meatballs was the cook in Week 2 with Mexican Chicken Burrito Bowls was the practical lesson for this past week.

Their assessment this term is to design a new dish for the Stanthorpe RSL menu which has the following elements - Protein, Starch, Vegetables or Salad (at least 3 different items), Garnish. Students have to use the Design Process to design, develop, create (produce) and evaluate the dish. It is an individual assessment with an individual cook. Students will need to provide the ingredients for this assessment but they will have access to our Kitchen Food Storeroom basic ingredients to help out. Please contact your child's teacher if you require assistance with providing ingredients for their assessment. 

Year 12 Certificate II in Cookery
The students in this course are busy completing their units of competency. They are cooking each week, bringing their own ingredients, to complete their Simple Dishes and Basic Methods of Cookery units. They are also cooking for various functions by making sandwiches and appetisers and preparing various desserts for the weekly Coffee Shop every Friday. 
Every lesson between now and the end of the year is important with students working at the Stanthorpe RSL, in the school's Highlander Tuckshop and completing individual and function cooks. All of these services go towards their certificate and must be completed for them to be deemed competent.
