Faculty Focus - Humanities
Mrs Linda Perrett - Head of Department
Humanities
Students in Humanities this year have been experiencing some amazing learning opportunities.
In Senior Humanities, our students have been busy. Year 11 and 12 Ancient History traversed their way to Brisbane to engage with the Ancient Egypt curated exhibition at the Queensland Museum. Year 11 and 12 Modern History students also participated in "Live at the Library", an online session with archivists from the State Library of Queensland. Year 11 and 12 Geographers have completed their field work in Warwick, investigating the liveability of place.
In Junior Humanities, our students in Year 7 have been writing emails about local civic issues and taking the time to be active citizens. Year 8s have been learning about Medieval Europe, the battles of the knights and the torment of the Black Death, and soon they head off to Japan to learn about the Shoguns and Samurai. History students in Year 9 have focused on Making and Transforming Australia, and World War I and its impacts. Year 10 History have focused on Making a Nation, Australia post Federation and World War II.
Again in 2025, students across Years 7, 8 and 9 have had the opportunity to compete in the annual Australia History Competition and Australian Geography competition. We eagerly await these results.
Humanities continues to bring history alive, preparing our students for tomorrow.
