Year 9 Food & Design Technology

The Year 9s are really enjoying their new unit - International Cookery. This term they are studying cookery from around the globe including Indigenous flavours. So far they have made Dampers with Indigenous herbs and spices (as part of NAIDOC week), Chicken Yakitori from Japan and Sticky Toffee Puddinng from the UK. They will make Pork & Vegetable Dumplings from China and Butter Chicken and Rice from India. Each recipe focuses on a particular method of cookery while broadening the students food experiences as well. Their assignment is to research and produce a dish from one of these countries, complete with accompaniments. They also have to produce a poster that informs customers about the country and the origins of the dish. Their assessment will be individual and students are expected to bring some ingredients from home. If this is an issue, please contact your child's teacher as we are more than happy to help out if we can. They are welcome to use our staple ingredients from our food store when producing their final dish.

Certificate II in Hospitality

Each Monday and Tuesday the Certificate II in Hospitality students complete work placement at the Stanthorpe RSL Club. Here they clean and tidy a bar, serve beverages, welcome guests at Reception, prepare and serve espresso coffees, take orders and provide food service as well as washing up. It is a busy time at the RSL but the staff are so helpful and the students feel right at home now. Regular guests can see their improvement and confidence build.

We would like to thank the Stanthorpe RSL Club for allowing us to complete our prac elements at the Club in a real life industry standard setting. It is hard to replicate this in a classroom.

Year 11 Food & Nuturition & Year 11 Certificate II in Cookery
Both classes have been busy completing food experiments and assignments and recipe cooks from their units of competency.
Food & Nutrition students cooked Beetroot Relish which will form part of dishes served in our upcoming functions and it focuses on Preservation methods.
Cookery students prepared and produced Bruschetta which involves the method of cooking - Toasting. But it is also a great little dish to serve as nibbles or starters - or in this case - their lunch!
Year 12 Certificate II in Information & Cultural Services
As part of their unit of competency, Assist with the staging of public activities or events, one of the year 12 classes ran a number of mini events as part of the school's NAIDOC celebrations. Students researched, planned and produced resources to run their individual events which included painting, cooking and story telling. The rest of the school was invited to join in the fun and activities on the day and as you can see by the photos they did and loved it! Now their major event is the upcoming Art Show so stay tuned for more information about this event.
The 2nd Year 12 class are busy planning for their major event - Mental Health Week - which will be held in Week 2 Term 4. They are looking for Mental Health & Wellbeing groups, organisations or businesses who would like to run a stand on the main Friday. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact the school.
