Announcing the Flexischools Program
Stanthorpe State High School will be using Flexischools to make over-the-counter purchases at our school from 25/03/2025. Australia's #1 school ordering solution, Flexischools, operates in more than 1700 schools across Australia, enabling parents and students to order and pay for school lunches, uniform shop items, and school community events online or via the Flexischools app.
Flexischools App
Parents simply download the Flexischools app from the Apple or Google store and follow the prompts to create an account. You can download the App and find registration and online ordering instructions here.
Parents can set daily spend limits and keep an eye on what they’re buying via your Flexischools app. In the future, you will be able to add access for your child to use the App, enabling them to place online orders themselves - great for growing independence.
If you already have a Flexischools account for another family member then just select the Profile icon on the app and +Add New Student.
Student Cards
Students will be able to make over-the-counter canteen purchases with their existing student ID card by linking their card to their profile in the Flexischools App.
Here’s how to link your child’s student card to your Flexischools account for cash-free spending at school.
- Register a Flexischools account and create a student
- Select Stanthorpe State High School from drop down list
- Under Settings, enter the Student ID number located on the front of your student card

Well done and thank you to all students, supported by their families, who represented our school at the range of ANZAC Day services across our district. We are privileged to live in a situation where we can come together as communities to recognise and acknowledge the commitment and sacrifices of others. It was extremely pleasing to see the number, presentation and conduct of our students making the most of this opportunity to demonstrate their respect.
In the first three weeks of the term, we have again had students participating in many extracurricular activities in a range of areas, with our annual cross country occurring in the first week. It was great to see the number of students in attendance along with the engagement throughout the day.
The significant majority of our students can also be proud of how they finished Term 1 and returned for Term 2. Whether it be in the playground, preparing for classes, in classes or during our various extracurricular activities it is brilliant to see our students doing their part and making the most of our local opportunities.
Parent Teacher Interviews will occur in the School Resource Centre from 3:30pm-7:00pm on Tuesday 20 May. Appointment bookings will be made via the SZapp (Schoolzine App) and will open at 9.00am on Tuesday 13 May and will close at 3.30pm on Tuesday, 19 May. For assistanced with using the SZapp for bookings please see https://www.schoolzine.com/sk-booking-guide/
Information on how to download and install the SZapp is available below. Please contact the Administration Office if you would like further information about the SZapp or assistance with booking a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
Thank you.

News from our Year Level Co-ordinators
Mrs Tanya Hamilton - Year 7
Thank you to the Year 7 students who marched in the recent ANZAC Parade, students represented Stanthorpe State High School with poise and purpose. Great to see Year 7s all well dressed in formal uniform as well.
Technology Focus
While the majority of students have shown an incredible ability to use technology in a respectful and engaged way, there are a number of students who are not following the school ICT Policy. iPads should be used during class and for at home tasks, such as homework or assessment. They are an excellent learning tool and a privilege that Year 7 students are lucky to have. They should not be used for messaging through emails, social media, gaming, video recording and taking photos of other students without consent. Using technology respectfully is a school expectation, and again, acknowledges the right for all students to learn by accessing technology safely. This also includes mobile phone usage, with the reminder that they are off and away during school hours. Technology and how to use social media respectfully will still stay at the forefront of a wellbeing focus.
Winter Uniform
Finally winter is here!!!, the Year 7 Cohort have been consistent in demonstrating high standards in wearing the correct uniform on the correct days. Reminder on winter uniform, students need to be in school approved jackets, hoodies and long pants.Parent Teacher Interviews (Week 5 Tuesday)
Our Term 2 Parent Teacher Interviews will be held Week 5 Tuesday (20/5) between 3.30pm and 7pm. More information will be communicated prior to the event about how to book an interview, (also see the Admin section above).
If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s wellbeing, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Academic queries, particularly after Term 1 Interim Reports, should be directed to classroom teachers.

Ms Leigh Cusack - Year 8
A warm welcome to Term 2.
Uniforms coming into winter
Check in with your student about warm, clean uniforms.
As students come from a warm home to a warm car, to a cold school, they are getting caught short. While students may claim they are fine in shorts and shirt, it is a good idea to have a named jumper or tracksuit pants in their bag.
Students have been reminded they will need a note/phone call from a parent/guardian, if they are unable to wear a school jumper at school for a day or 2. Be aware that being out of uniform, without a note, will result in a HOD detention the next day.
If your student has outgrown or worn out their uniform, the Uniform shop is open Monday 8am-12pm and Thursday 8am-12pm. Staff even ‘name’ the items you buy, reducing the chances of lost belongings.
For parents without the Flexischools app: a price list is on school website SSHS Uniform Shop, were the order form is second on the right hand menu. For families needing further assistance, the Year 8 YLC can provide uniforms.
Thank you for supporting students to wear the correct uniform.
Reports
By now all families should have their report cards for Term 1. If you have not received yours, please contact the School (07) 46815888 or admin@stanthorpeshs.eq.edu.au
ANZAC Day
It was fantastic to see Year 8s acknowledging the sacrifices made by our service men and women since 1901, by marching. Students presented well in full school uniform, with many attending dawn services or staying after the march to take part in remembrance services. Thank you to families that have supported their children to do this, particularly families that travelled to make services.
Parent Teacher
Parent Teacher Interviews will occur Tuesday, 20 May, beginning at 3.30 pm. Teachers will be available to discuss any issues around how your child(ren) is progressing in their learning. Bookings are via the Schoolzine App, (downloadable for android and apple devices). How to download the App is attached to this newsletter.

Mr James Killer - Year 9
Wishing everybody a warm welcome back to Term 2. The start of Term 2 has been a busy one with public holidays and short weeks but everyone seems to be settling back into the school routine.
ANZAC Day (Week 1)
The Year 9 cohort proudly represented the school at this year’s ANZAC day parade, as well as at the ANZAC service in Stanthorpe but also at other ANZAC services in the greater area. At our most recent year level assembly these students were recognised with a certificate of recognition for their efforts on the day.
Looking forward now:

Ms Kate Dearden - Year 10
Term 2, three weeks in, and already ANZAC Day and Cross Country are out of the way. Congratulations to all those who participated in these events. You did yourself and the school proud. This term it's time to look forward and imagine the future while making the most of everyday.
Another very busy term happening and really important events for Year 10. Firstly, our weekly form classes will be spent doing preparation for Senior Education and Training (SET) Planning in Term 3 when students make decisions about their future pathway. Engaging with the form class activities will ensure students can make good decisions for next year and beyond.
Students who received mostly A's for Effort and/or Behaviour were acknowledged at our Senior School Assembly last week. They will be awarded a completed REP card and go in the draw for a Canteen voucher to acknowledge the focus and respect that they bring to every one of their classes to support their own learning and the learning of others. Of course, all students are capable of achieving this, making themselves eligible for an Industry Merit or Excellence Award on Awards Night in October.
An opportunity for high performing students who are aiming for University is the University of Queensland Young Achievers Program which makes them eligible for camps, financial support, mentoring and ATAR bonus points. There are entry requirements including a parental income threshold. Students have already expressed interest but their Semester 1 report and school involvement are key factors in this. Applications are due in July.
A whole range of sporting events are on in the next few weeks as well - Bill Turner Soccer already underway, Border District Cross Country on Friday, Broncos Cup Netball and Rugby League in Weeks 5 and 6 and Vicki Wilson Netball Week 6. Congratulations to all Year 10s who've put their hand up and best of luck.
With all the opportunities presented, I encourage students to apply themselves to their studies but get involved in the extra-curricular opportunities to make the most of their time at school.
As always, if you have any issues or concerns please make contact:

Mrs Josephine Rogers - Year 11
This term the focus for Year 11s is influence and leadership. Students will consider what type of leader they already are and can be. All are encouraged to think about applying (in Term 3) for rewarding 2026 School Captain, House Captain, Prefect and Student Council roles. Focus questions for this term include:
- How do others influence you?
- How do others impact your ability to achieve your goals?
- How do you influence others?
ASSESSMENT
Students are busy meeting checkpoints and completing assessment. Year 11 demands a high output from students. There are a range of school support options to address workload, study habits or challenges. Students can come and talk to me for direction and advice.
CONGRATULATIONS
At the recent senior assembly, students who achieved As and no more than two Bs across their Term 1 Interim report card results were acknowledged. All students were encouraged to maintain their efforts and strive to improve their results.
CAMP
Parents, guardians and students are encouraged to save for the Year 11 Future Pathways Excursion to Brisbane that will be held in Term 3 Week 10. Highlights include an Amazing Race style hunt in Brisbane City as well as various industry and tertiary education familiarisations.
SCHOOL EXPECTATIONS
Please encourage your student to ensure they are wearing all correct uniform items. I can provide guidance with uniform items as needed. A reminder to students and families that chewing gum is not allowed at school and phones must be off and away.
Please get in touch via email or the school office with any queries or concerns.

Miss Meghann Wear - Year 12
This term in form Year 12 are focusing on the future. This includes renting properties, paying rent, student accomodation, buying a car and how to insure that vehicle. Students will be completing a range of activities and discussions with their form teachers in this time. This is a great opportunity to start exploring their plans in 2026 and beyond.
UQ Colleges Visit
In Week 10 last term, ATAR eligible students who are considering studying in Brisbane were provided with an opportunity to speak with Stephen (Head of College, St Leo's) and Janet (Deputy Head of The Women's College). It was a great opportunity for our students to ask questions and gain insight in to living on campus at the University of Queensland whilst potentially studying at other Brisbane based institutions.
Ski Trip
Students who are attending Ski Trip will be provided with an updated letter and permission form shortly. This letter also contains the cost breakdown for the trip and when scheduled payments need to be made to meet our tour operator requirements. These costs are subject to numbers remaining above 30 students attending the trip. If your student has not received a letter please ask them to see me in the K block staffroom.
Assessment and Attendance
As we continue through a busy final year, an important reminder that every day at school matters. It is important that students are in class and doing their best to achieve their QCE or the ATAR needed to gain access to university. Being in class provides students with the opportunity to speak to their teacher and access feedback which is important for their assessment or gain greater knowledge of topics and practical skills.
Effort and Behaviour
Congratulations to the students who were rewarded for their consistent effort and behaviour throughout Term 1. Students who received the majority A's and no more than two B's on their interim report were given a pre-stamped REP card. It was wonderful to be able to acknowledge so many of our Year 12's.
If you have any queries please don't hesitate to get in contact via email: mwear8@eq.edu.au

Sport & Recreation
Year 12 Sport & Recreation have been completing their Event Management unit, exploring motivation strategies to increase participation of players for future events they will manage. Strategies include the use of fun equipment (like squeaking rubber chickens), costumes, team celebrations and music. Our student community will benefit by getting to participate in some of their fun events they have been busy planning as they implement them over the next couple of weeks.

11 Sport & Recreation are completing a community recreation unit which sees them visit and participate in a wide variety of activities our wonderful community has to offer. Students have investigated activities such as Park Run, the Skate Park, our outdoor gym and walking paths. They also did a virtual tour of Mt Marlay mountain bike trials and over the next few weeks will participate in activities at the Y fitness centre. Their assessment will see them take one of these community activities and adapt it to appeal to a teenage audience.

Senior Physical Education
Last term in Senior PE, students delved into sport psychology, exploring strategies like motivation, confidence, and arousal control, which students applied during our engaging badminton lessons. Through their FA1 and IA1 folio tasks, students demonstrated thoughtful reflection and a genuine commitment to improving their performance. This term, focus has shifted to equity and access in physical activity, where students are examining important social, environmental, cultural, and personal factors that impact participation in sport.

Health and Physical Education
Year 10 HPE students are exploring and learning about different training types to support specific fitness goals. This research then supports their assessment where they are to design personalised fitness plans to improve their chosen components of fitness for touch football training.
Year 9 Students will be investigating the role that the community plays in promoting and encouraging sustainable health. Students will investigate and evaluate community facilities in Stanthorpe to determine how they can positively impact the health of individuals and their alignment to the goals of the Queensland Plan. Based off this evaluation, students will create proposals to improve alignment to the Queensland Plan. Practically, students will be working on their knowledge of the rules and tactics of racquet sports and futsal, whilst improving and preforming skills with speed, accuracy and fluency.
Year 8 HPE students are currently hard at work in movement and health lessons to develop their understanding of whole-body fitness in athletics. This is explored through the teaching and testing of components of fitness from flexibility to speed. They are also developing the ability to train these components to improve them and have recently created fun class fitness routines (based around a deck of cards!) they will complete later this term.
Year 7 students are participating in athletics this term in preparation for the Interschool Athletics Carnival at the end of term. Each week they will try a new athletic event to build on their skills. Additionally, students are playing a range of minor games that involve a variety of select skills to support their assessment where in groups they design and test a newly created minor game that considers inclusivity and diversity within the school context.

Stanthorpe State High School kicked off the term with its much-anticipated annual Inter-House Cross-Country Carnival in Week 1. Despite another round of unpredictable weather, our dedicated and flexible staff worked behind the scenes to ensure the event went ahead—bringing energy, fun, and a strong sense of community spirit to the day.
The morning began with laughter and cheers as our House Captains entertained the crowd with a humorous fashion parade, setting a positive tone before the races began. Throughout the day, students showcased outstanding house pride—decked out in colourful outfits, cheering on their peers, and participating enthusiastically in events like the Tug-O-War and Ball Games.
The main part of the day featured some truly impressive running performances across all age groups. A huge congratulations to all who participated and contributed to their house’s efforts!
We now turn our attention to the next level of competition, as our top runners head off to represent Stanthorpe State High School at the Border District Cross Country. They’ll be joined by the Granite Belt’s top 12-year-old runners for the upcoming Darling Downs event in the following weeks.
Best of luck to all our athletes—we’re proud of you!
Is your student interested in running? Have they considered joining our school Highlanders Rub Club?
Run club occurs every Thursday from 3:30 – 4:45pm. The Stanthorpe State High School ‘Highlanders Run Club’ is open to all ages and abilities with a primary purpose of providing health benefits and setting and achieving manageable goals. Permission notes are collected from Miss Follet and returned to the school office.

The Digital Dragons is a school club that is based in the library that uses the Minecraft Education program. It is a collection of easy-to-use training resources that uses Minecraft Education and it has been mapped across the Australian Curriculum. In Term one the Digitals Dragons held a tournament to see who could build the best Minecraft Zoo, the response was fantastic with students from Year 7 to 12 participating. It was great to see a full house for every session of the Tournament. The judging was done by the IT crew, with the standard of the entries being very high, the decisions were a close call.
The overall winner was Ewan (Year 12) with second place going to Ryan (Year 12) and third place to Declan (Year 8) with the runner up being Jamie (Year 7). There was also another award up for grabs which was decided by the library supervisors, this was for the student who best showed the behaviour expectations of the Library, this was awarded to Kayden McLarty for consistently following the expectations and setting a good example to others.

Year 9 Food & Design Technology
Students are further developing their methods of cookery knowledge and skills through cooking - with pasta and rice being the focus. Spaghetti & Meatballs was the cook in Week 2 with Mexican Chicken Burrito Bowls was the practical lesson for this past week.
Their assessment this term is to design a new dish for the Stanthorpe RSL menu which has the following elements - Protein, Starch, Vegetables or Salad (at least 3 different items), Garnish. Students have to use the Design Process to design, develop, create (produce) and evaluate the dish. It is an individual assessment with an individual cook. Students will need to provide the ingredients for this assessment but they will have access to our Kitchen Food Storeroom basic ingredients to help out. Please contact your child's teacher if you require assistance with providing ingredients for their assessment.
